> KARST

“Karst” – this rather odd-sounding name refers to all the empty spaces created in a layer of limestone rock when the rock is dissolved by the action of water from rain, snow or streams. Originally the word comes from a region in Slovenia where the hollowing out phenomena were described for the first time.
